Hello and thanks for visiting.  I started this blog as a way to record and preserve my memories of all the wonderful places I have been and of those I am yet to visit.

I travelled a lot when I was younger, I wanted to see every country in the world, so far I have been to 52. I hope to make it to at least 100.

I have written and published romance novels but my real love is travel writing,  I am currently working on  ‘A Monkey On My Back’. (Title from a chase through the Venezuelan jungle)

I seem to have a knack for getting myself into absurd situations whilst on my travels. I’ve endured 5 days on a Greyhound bus with a revolving door of lunatics as it rattled across America, the highlight of that trip was when the gun toting druggie who turned the toilet into his mobile crack den took a real shine to me. 😕  I woke up one morning to see him kneeling on the seat in front, waving his gun above his head. Then he leaned over and stroked my hair…😱

I think I was most astounded to find myself being frisked over a police car in L.A and put in ‘the cage’ after my 14yr old sister rang the LAPD from England because I told her I was lost ( I was 26). They thought it was a crank call but decided to check it out anyway and upon finding me, a fully grown adult crying  beside a pay phone in Brentwood then listening to my story (there is always a story) they probably thought it was safer to remove me from the streets of L.A.  I sat in the back staring at the cops heads through the grille thinking ‘How did I get here?’ I felt like I was in an episode of Starsky & Hutch.

I have also had a few jobs I took solely to travel for free. Most didn’t work out too well 😕.  I jumped ship in the Caribbean and on the Rhine (in the dark; without a gangplank) and I escaped the most awful job in a  Japanese Karaoke bar  by running away to Hawaii where I was stung on the face by a giant jelly fish.

I travel on a budget and am always on the lookout for a bargain, my best deal was a flight from Bangkok to Hanoi for a dollar. I love researching destinations and their history and any place I visit always includes a tour of as many hotels as possible, it is a bit of an obsession.

2016 was the worst year of my life and I really feel I need some help so I am travelling again, because for me travel is the best therapy, I’ve lost my mojo so I am going to look for it. I hope to find it in Mexico. See my post ‘Mojo Hunting in Mexico for more info. I  will write all about it here.

I will also explore Mexico City and some beautiful towns and cities, hopefully (if I get my mojo back) making it across to the Yucatan to visit Merida, Valladolid, Tulum and as many Mayan temples and cenotes as possible.

Wherever you may be heading, I wish you safe & happy travels! 🌎

  1. Trapped inside your senses
    Wanting to escape
    Nothing will keep you grounded
Even grief will have to break
    Cowering into nowhere
    Searching inside
    Your soul
    For distant foreign lands
    Where life it lies easy
    And sand between your toes
    Drifting among the clouds
    Oh Louise
    That is how life goes

    1. Nick that is so beautiful and describes perfectly why I always want to escape overseas. I try to run from pain but it lives inside me. I know this but it helps x
